Discover our craftsmanship

At Old Soul Fashion, our team of artisans from various corners of India meticulously weaves and prints our original designs. This process is labor-intensive, time-consuming, and faithfully follows centuries-old traditions.

Design inspiration

Our designs are inspired by the rich tapestry of ancient Indian art combined with a modern perspective. We draw upon the cultural heritage of India, from intricate patterns found in ancient temples to the vibrant colors of traditional textiles. These elements are reimagined through a contemporary lens to create designs that are both timeless and innovative.

Weaving by hand

Utilizing Amber charkas or hand-made looms, our weavers transform raw organic yarn into hand-woven cotton fabric. Weaving thousands of threads together demands skill, patience, and unwavering passion for the craft. Once the weaving is complete, the fabric is prepared for printing.

Hand-block printing

India boasts a multitude of hand-block printing styles, each representing the distinct cultural essence of its region of origin. Whether it's northern Bagru printing or the southern Kalamkari technique, hand-block printing transcends the mere transfer of dyes onto textiles. It is a means of preserving tradition and rendering it relevant for today.

At the core of hand-block printing lies the intricately carved wooden block. First, the master carver meticulously chisels the design onto the block. This art of block carving demands exceptional craftsmanship, a skill honed over generations.

Subsequently, our printers dip the blocks into natural, non-toxic dyes and meticulously stamp the fabric. They repeat the process, layering one color atop another, all while expertly aligning the blocks by sight. The dyes we use are sourced from nature, often derived from plants like turmeric and madder root.

Drying the natural stains

Following the printing and drying process, the fabric undergoes a final camphor wash to set the ink. The subtle variations in color and weave, resulting from this handcrafted technique, contribute to the fabric's unique aesthetic appeal and narrate its individual story. Finally our skilled artisans deftly cut and sew the fabric by hand. Crafting each piece demands three days of dedicated work, with no detail considered too small by our team. The end result is not just a piece of clothing, but a work of art.
